Freshfields announces changes to Asia leadership team

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (Freshfields) has appointed a new Regional Managing Partner for the Asia region.
Having completed an extended six-year term, Robert Ashworth will step down as Regional Managing Partner. From May 2017, the role will be assumed by Georgia Dawson, a partner in the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice. Robert will now join the leadership of the firm’s International M&A Group as co-head global M&A working with fellow co-heads, Bruce Embley in London and Matt Herman in New York. The firm’s China practice will continue to be led by China Chairman Teresa Ko.
Georgia Dawson has been with Freshfields for 13 years and has a strong market profile and reputation in the disputes space, working on many high-profile cross-border disputes and contentious regulatory matters. Her work also extends to the community and pro bono spaces and she has a long-standing interest in supporting diversity initiatives in the firm and community more generally.
As Regional Managing Partner, Georgia will continue to split her time between Hong Kong and Singapore, enabling her to focus on growing the firm’s business across Asia.
“It’s a great honour to succeed Rob as Regional Managing Partner for Asia, and I look forward to harnessing the considerable opportunities that I see for the firm in this dynamic region,” commented Georgia Dawson. “Our standing in Asia has never been stronger than it is today. We have successfully developed market-leading positions in many of our practice areas and I look forward to working with our talented and diverse teams across Asia to continue to strengthen and develop our position throughout the region.”
Commenting on these changes, Chris Pugh, Joint Managing Partner, said:
“I have no doubt that Georgia will make a brilliant regional managing partner and she is fortunate to have such a strong team of partners to lead across practices and the region. We have a very successful track record in Asia built up over the last 40 years and are hugely grateful to Rob for his highly effective six years in the role, which contributed significantly to the firm’s continued growth. He now joins our International M&A leadership team as co-head global M&A and his international reputation as one of Asia’s leading M&A lawyers, coupled with his vast experience advising on some of Asia’s most high-profile transactions, make him a perfect fit for that position.”
