Freshfields strengthens global offering with US IP partner

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer US LLP (‘Freshfields’) has bolstered its US transactional and global intellectual property offerings with the appointment of Menachem Kaplan, who will lead the firm’s US IP practice. Mena, a leading IP attorney with significant experience in the technology sector, will join Freshfields’ New York office.

Mena, who joins Freshfields from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, will add his IP expertise to Freshfields’ robust US transactional team, while working together with the firm’s global IP team to deliver enhanced value for our US and global clients in their most significant transactions around the world. His experience in structuring and negotiating a wide range of IP transaction agreements is complemented by his considerable knowledge and understanding in the technology sector.

“The ability to navigate the tech space with sophistication is critical to our clients’ business needs, regardless of where they are located or their industry sector,” said Peter Lyons, US Regional Managing Partner at Freshfields. “Superlative transactional IP advice, earned through years of experience like Mena’s, is essential to success for clients around the world, and will help us fulfil our client promise, to cross borders with confidence.”

Matthew Herman, co-head of the firm’s global M&A practice, added, “Mena’s ability to handle the most complex of IP-driven transactions for clients will be immediately accretive to our strong team of NY-based transactional lawyers acting for corporations, private equity firms and financial institutions, wherever their needs arise.”

“Freshfields is a truly international firm with one of the industry’s leading global IP practices,” said Mena. “The chance to work alongside best-in-class colleagues on matters that touch every global business center is a tremendous opportunity.”
