Freshfields advises NBG Group on the sale of both Banca Romaneasca and Vojvođanska Banka

  • The firm continues to advise NBG Group on sales related to its divestment programme
  • Freshfields has now acted on six significant disposals for the bank in the last two years
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (‘Freshfields’) has advised the National Bank of Greece S.A. (‘NBG’) on its sale of a 99.28% stake in Banca Romaneasca S.A. (‘Banca Romaneasca’) and a portfolio of Romanian-risk corporate loans to OTP Bank Romania S.A. The firm has also advised NBG on its sale of Vojvođanska Banka a.d. (‘Vojvođanska Banka’), NBG Leasing d.o.o., and a portfolio of Serbian-risk corporate loans, which were sold to OTP Banka Srbija A.D. Novi Sad.
Combined, the two deals will strengthen NBG’s liquidity position by approximately €930m. These two transactions mark the fifth and sixth sales on which Freshfields has advised NBG in the last two years, having already advised it on the disposals of Finansbank A.Ş., United Bulgarian Bank A.D., South African Bank of Athens and Ethniki Hellenic General Insurance S.A.
