Teresa Ko and Julian Pritchard named Champions of Women in Business

Two partners from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (‘Freshfields’), Teresa Ko and Julian Pritchard, have been highlighted in the 2017 FT and HERoes Champions of Women in Business Lists (‘the Lists’). Julian has been ranked 26th in the 30 Male Champions of Women in Business List, and Teresa has been named number three in the 10 Global Champions of Women in Business List.
Published by the Financial Times, and compiled by the paper and HERoes, the Lists celebrate the progress made by individuals who use their personal success as a springboard for women in business, and who work to address the lack of gender diversity in the workplace. HERoes is a new gender-equality initiative of OUTstanding, a corporate membership organisation for LGBT executives.
In their assessment of Teresa’s success as a champion of women, the judges considered her extensive involvement in the firm’s women’s events, her global efforts to highlight gender inequality and regular coaching of female colleagues to ensure they meet their full potential. Teresa is also executive sponsor of the firm’s Asia Women’s Network. As the first female chair of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange’s Listing Committee, she initiated diversity policy disclosure requirement for listed companies, and is a founding member and member of the steering committee of Hong Kong’s 30% Club.
In honouring Julian, the judges took note of the programme he developed while US managing partner to drive great gender diversity outcomes.  The programme introduced a broad range of initiatives to foster inclusion and make smart working the norm. Now co-sponsor of the firm’s global gender diversity efforts, Julian also regularly participates in diversity events outside the firm and is particularly focused at the moment on measures to accelerate the increase of women in the firm's partnership and other leadership positions.
