Freshfields strengthens its Middle East disputes offering with new counsel hire

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (‘Freshfields’) has strengthened its market-leading international arbitration, investigations and litigation capabilities with the hire of Amani Khalifa as Counsel in its Dubai office. Amani will work for clients across the Middle East and Africa with an emphasis on construction disputes, litigation and global investigations, commencing 1 May.

Amani has more than 10 years of experience in advising on complex disputes, particularly in the construction sector, and also sits as an arbitrator. Triple-qualified in the UK, New York and Egypt, Amani joins the firm from Khalifa, the successful boutique dispute resolution firm in Cairo which she established in 2014. During the course of her career, Amani has advised clients from a range of markets including Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

Erin Miller Rankin commented: "Advising our clients on their disputes and construction matters in the Middle East and Africa continues to be a growth area for Freshfields and we are delighted to further build on our offering in this area with Amani’s recruitment in Dubai. Her stellar record speaks for itself and her understanding of the UK, US, Egyptian and other Middle Eastern legal systems will bring value to our clients, who are often balancing the needs and demands of running their business across different jurisdictions where the standard market practice and underlying legal systems can vary substantially.”

Boris Kasolowsky, co-head of Freshfields’ International Arbitration group notes: “We are delighted to welcome Amani Khalifa to our thriving international arbitration team in the MENA region. The entire Freshfields International Arbitration Group looks forward to working with her to deliver on the large and complex client mandates we are seeing in the Middle East and Africa region.”

Amani says: “I am delighted to be joining Freshfields and excited to be working alongside such a talented and dynamic team of lawyers. The firm is recognised as a leader in arbitration and I look forward to furthering the firm’s commitment to excellent service and achieving positive results for our clients.”
