Freshfields advises Oxford University on its £4bn partnership with Legal & General

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (‘Freshfields’) is advising Oxford University on its house-building partnership with Legal & General (‘L&G’). L&G is expected to invest £4bn over a period of ten years.

The deal is an open structured 50:50 partnership, which enables both parties to collaborate on a series of new projects, including affordable student accommodation, staff homes and science and innovation centres at the University.

The legal structure of the joint venture arrangements agreed between the parties enable the University and L&G to work together to ensure that the University’s requirements for the provision of residential and other accommodation, as well as L&G’s investment requirements are met.

The Freshfields team was led by partners Alex Watt and May Smith and senior associate Robert Bindless.
