Freshfields advises Infracapital on its acquisition of GBRf

 Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (‘Freshfields’) has advised Infracapital, on its acquisition of GB Railfreight Limited (‘GB Railfreight’), one of the UK’s leading rail freight operators, from EQT Infrastructure (‘EQT’). The transaction is expected to close in mid-October 2019.
 
GB Railfreight is the UK’s third largest rail freight operator, providing essential freight and non-freight haulage services to customers in a number of the country’s critical industries. The company moves approximately 23 per cent of the UK’s rail cargo and has a presence in several larger deep-sea ports in the UK, operating more than 1,000 trainloads a week. 
 
Infracapital manages £4.5bn of unlisted equity in infrastructure companies on behalf of institutional clients including the life funds of M&GPrudential, one of Europe’s largest investors in private assets. 
 
The Freshfields team was led by partners Richard Thexton and Alex Carver,  with support from partners Alex Potter, Helen Lethaby, Andrew Murphy and Jenny McIvor as counsel.
