Freshfields Litigation Partner Linda H. Martin Named a “2020 Notable Woman in Law” by Crain’s New York Business

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (‘Freshfields’) Litigation Partner Linda H. Martin has been recognized as one of 2020’s “2020 Notable Women in Law” by Crain’s New York Business.

The third annual list recognizes and celebrates 100 women attorneys in New York who are passionate about serving their clients while also balancing their civic, philanthropic, and personal priorities.

Linda’s recent work runs the gamut from advising on the litigation aspects for some of the largest corporate transactions to achieving far- reaching victories for clients before federal and state courts. In September, Linda led a team that successfully represented Abdul Latif Jameel Transportation (“ALJ”) against FedEx Corp before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, which agreed with Freshfields’ argument that pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1782, federal courts can order US- style discovery for private arbitrations abroad.

She also dedicates a substantial portion of her time to pro bono work. This year, Linda supervised another significant win—this time for Afghani and Iraqi Special Immigrant Visa applicants who face mortal danger for helping US forces in Afghanistan and Iraq—in which a US District Court granted summary judgement in our pro bono clients’ favor in a lawsuit against the Departments of State and Homeland Security.

Outside of her legal experience, Linda is Chair Emeritus of the New York-based Children’s Tumor Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) not- for- profit that is dedicated to raising awareness and finding effective treatments for the millions of people living with neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic condition which causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. Linda has been a board member for the organization since 2007. Linda also is on the Board of Visitors of her alma mater, Duke University School of Law, and is a former board president of its alumni association.
