02 Jun 2020 Freshfields advises CVC Capital Partners on its partnership with PRO14 Rugby Charles HayesDavid BrooksJill GatehouseSimon Priddis Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP ('Freshfields') is advising CVC Capital Partners, one of the world's leading private equity and investment advisory firms, on CVC Capital Partners Fund VII's ('CVC Fund VII') significant strategic partnership investment in PRO14 Rugby. Under the agreement, CVC Fund VII will acquire a 28 per cent share of PRO14 Rugby from Celtic Rugby DAC, and the unions will retain a 72 per cent majority share. The partnership commitment will allow both PRO14 Rugby and the Irish, Italian, Scottish & Welsh rugby unions to continue to invest in the sport, both professional and amateur, to achieve its potential over the long term. The investment represents the latest commitment by CVC Funds to the sports, media and entertainment sector, having previously invested in MotoGP, Formula One and Premiership Rugby. The Freshfields team is being led by Charles Hayes, David Brooks, Jill Gatehouse and Simon Priddis.
