Freshfields co-head of global antitrust litigation is named a 2020 Winning Litigator by The National Law Journal

Partner Eric Mahr has been named a 2020 Winning Litigator by The National Law Journal. Eric is recognized for successfully defending client Evonik against the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) attempt to block its acquisition of competitor PeroxyChem. This victory marked the first loss for the FTC since 2015, breaking the agency’s seven-case winning streak in litigated merger challenges. This success is also only the second time in at least 20 years that the FTC decided not to appeal the district court’s judgment.

Since joining Freshfields in 2018, Eric has represented a number of high-profile clients in civil and criminal litigation and government investigations, including Evonik. Prior to joining Freshfields, Eric served as Director of Litigation of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, where he oversaw the Department’s antitrust litigation with a focus on civil litigation and trials.

In addition to being named a 2020 Winning Litigator, Eric is recognized as a leading lawyer in Antitrust Litigation and Antitrust Law in Chambers, Legal 500, Super Lawyers, Expert Guides, Best Lawyers and similar publications.
