Freshfields’ Georgia Dawson and Alexander Dmitrenko recognised for commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusivity

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (‘Freshfields’) senior partner, Georgia Dawson, and head of Asia sanctions, Alexander Dmitrenko, have each been named in one of the Outstanding LGBT+ Role Model Lists 2020, supported by Yahoo Finance.

Georgia’s inclusion in the Top 50 OUTstanding LGBT+ Ally Executive List marks the third consecutive year she has been recognised by OUTstanding and celebrated for being a vocal ally, actively working to create an environment where LGBTQ+ colleagues can comfortably bring their best professional selves to work.

This year, Georgia is joined by Alexander, who is named in the Top 100 OUTstanding LGBT+ Future Leaders Role Model List. Future Leaders are recognised as high performing and high potential individuals of all levels, celebrated for their work towards LGBTQ+ inclusion for people across the community.

All 2020 Role Models were nominated by peers and colleagues. Nominations were then reviewed by OUTstanding’s eminent panel of judges comprising senior international business leaders.

As the firm’s new senior partner, Georgia will be focused on ensuring LGBTQ+ inclusion remains central to the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategy and is committed to driving positive change within the organisation and beyond. She launched the Freshfields Asia Halo Champions Network for those colleagues who support and promote equality for the LGBTQ+ community+, and was the 2019 Stonewall Global Senior Champion, in recognition of her work promoting LGBTQ+ rights. Georgia has spearheaded LGBTQ+ initiatives and remains a longstanding and committed advocate for inclusion across the spectrum.

Alexander is a core member of the Freshfields Halo Network, leading firm-wide pro bono work on LGBTQ+ issues. He also co-founded and co-chairs the Lawyers for LGBT+ and Allies Network (LLAN), a prominent not-for-profit organisation which offers a collaborative platform for lawyers to promote LGBTQ+ equality. Most recently, Alexander has led LLAN’s work focused on marriage equality in Japan, including the Viewpoint on Marriage Equality, endorsed by 115 entities, which makes a recommendation to the Japanese Government to extend marriage rights to same-sex couples.

“It is an honour to be included in the OUTstanding Ally Executives List for the third consecutive year,” Georgia Dawson commented. “At Freshfields, we are committed to LGBTQ+ equality and creating truly inclusive workplaces and communities, which provide people with the opportunity to thrive. This recognition could not have happened without the hard work and dedication of colleagues around the firm, who ensure LGBTQ+ inclusion remains at the heart of our organisation.”

Alexander Dmitrenko commented: “The award truly belongs to many colleagues across Freshfields’ network, and especially our Tokyo team, who have been part of LLAN’s multi-year efforts to bring closer that day when we can live in a society where equality, diversity and inclusion are afforded to all.
